Hail Mary: Week 6
10.11.2007

There are only a measly 13 games this week, but 12 of the 13 could totally blow and the fifth matchup of 5-0 teams in NFL history, Patriots @ Cowboys, would definitely make up for it...or so we hope. But there is much more in Week 6, then the epic matchup so lets break down the week to come.

Looking for a W
There remain 3 totally defeated teams here in Week 6, and if my picks hold, it doesn't look like any of them will be tasting victory this week. The best chance would appear to go to the Dolphins, but with Cleo Lemons at quarterback, all the hopes might be dashed despite playing the Cleveland Browns. With that said, the Browns aren't last years Browns. They definitely have some fight in them, and going up against the Dolphins they don't have to worry about getting beat by a high powered offense. If you haven't notice their defense can't stop anybody. So it will be a trip to the Dawg Pound and very unlikely the first win of the season. The one positive for the winless Saints is their opponent, the Seahawks, scored exactly zero points last week. Even the Saints pathetic offense can manage to score 3 points to win. But then again there is no way their defense can keep a team shutout. It's just not going to happen. Factor in the travel to the west coast and problematic conditions that probably await, and the Saints won't come away with a win. And then theres the Rams who have gone from the Greatest Show on Turf to absolutely unbearable. Bulger, Jackson, Holt, and Bruce and it doesn't even matter. And they were never built to win with defense. So even though they are playing the Ravens, who in their own right, have looked like a Rams clone. Even as hard as it would be to replicate the snore-fest that was Ravens @ 49ers, these two teams can pull it off. Stranger things have happened than the Rams winning this weekend, but I don't expect it in the least.

How the West Was Won
The Raiders head south to San Deigo who participate in the second of three straight games against division foes. They thoroughly dispatched the Broncos last week at Mile High, and will look to continue winning against the Silver and Black. The winner of this game takes first place in the division. If the Chargers can win this one, and again next week against the Chiefs, they will be 4-3 and 3-0 against the AFC West and most likely in control of their destiny. It won't be an easy task as the Raiders enter with the best run game in the league and a pretty good defense. Expect this to be a classic AFC West battle.

Nearly Perfect
Jeff Fisher and his Tennessee Titans head to Tampa Bay and if history means anything the Titans should leave with a victory. Jeff Fisher is 13-1 against NFC South opponents as a head coach. The Titans played their worst game of the season last week and won't win again this season if they repeat that performance. The Buccaneers proved they were good enough to win the NFC South in their performance against the Colts, but they are definitely a middle of the pack type of talent.

Quick Hits
The Jaguars will look to right the ship against the Texans who took both games between the teams last year.

In a practice of ineptitude be sure not to miss the Vikings @ Bears. No really, that should be a great nap.

One time not too long ago the Bengals @ Chiefs would have been an entertaining game. Now its just impossible to pick a winner.

Any other week Redskins @ Packers, a game that pits one loss teams, would be Game of the Week. But you know by now that two 5-0 teams go at it, therefore making this game second on the list. Jason Campbell shows up Mr. Favre.

Game of the Week
5-0 vs. 5-0, Brady vs. Romo, Moss vs. Owens. 34 D vs. 34 D. Everybody will be watching. Check out the Game of the Week podcast at the link at the top right.
